Museums On The Air
The C.O.R.E. Group has the distinction of having an HF Amateur Radio station permanently installed as part of the Old Customs House Museum’s Communication exhibit. With the cooperation of the Museum staff and Director, we now have the only permanently installed, working Amateur Radio display in a Tennessee museum. Below is the story of how it all started…
The C.O.R.E. group set up a Special Event Station for the International Museums on the Air Weekend 15 and 16 June 2002 at the old Customs House Museum in Clarksville, TN. Four stations were set up in the museum’s snack bar to allow operation with antennae temporarily installed in the courtyard. Bands and modes were 6 meter SSB, 40 meter SSB, 40 meter CW, 15 meter SSB and PSK31 on multiple bands.
Group members operating were Al, KA1FFO, Terry, N5HOT, Hank, N3ORX, Jack, AA4TA (SK), Carmen, K1MED, Rodney, KD4UEJ, Angela, KG4JIF and Howard, K2LAW. Aaron, KB9MTD, stopped by to play radio with us for a brief while and some members of the general public learned a little of our hobby. All in all a good time.
